Maurice Vanegas
Maurice Vanegas is a Colombian-American entrepreneur, patented inventor, and innovator, known for his pioneering contributions in the fields of blockchain technology, sustainable transportation, and financial empowerment.
As the founder of the Hu-Fi Movement, Vanegas has redefined the concept of value creation through blockchain technology. The Hu-Fi Movement, established in 2020, empowers individuals to lend their time and resources without the constraints of traditional financial systems, leading a revolution in how communities can support each other and thrive economically. By providing tools that enable fully-backed, zero-interest loans, Hu-Fi offers a sustainable alternative to fiat currency, ensuring that time and labor are valued and utilized productively, even in the absence of traditional employment. Under Vanegas’s leadership, Hu-Fi has introduced groundbreaking platforms like EOS Template One, EOS Micro Loan, and EOS Market Place, which allow users to participate in digital bartering without the need for traditional banking infrastructure. His innovative work in this space is protected by U.S. Patent 11,798,073 for the Blockchain Digital Cryptocurrency Loan System, solidifying his status as a leader in the blockchain industry.
Vanegas is also the President and Founder of Transit Systems Unlimited, Inc., a company he established in 1991 to provide charter and shuttle services in Los Angeles County. Under his guidance, the company transitioned to a fleet of natural gas-powered buses, earning carbon credits and federal tax incentives. Vanegas’s commitment to sustainable transportation has been instrumental in securing over $1 million in grants for clients such as the Hollywood Bowl. Now, he is spearheading the next energy revolution, transitioning from natural gas to kilowatt-powered vehicles, and overseeing the creation of solar canopies at multiple sites. To date, these solar canopies have produced over 1 gigawatt of energy. The addition of a new solar canopy at the main terminal of Transit Systems will generate approximately 800 megawatts of clean renewable energy from the sun each year, further positioning the company at the forefront of clean energy transportation.
In addition to his work in transportation, Vanegas founded American Fleet Services in 1993, specializing in the mechanical repair of natural gas and electric-powered buses and trucks. He has been a key figure in advancing wireless communication technologies for vehicle diagnostics, ensuring real-time monitoring and maintenance of fleet vehicles.
As CEO of Tezo Systems Unlimited, Inc., a technology company he established in 2009, Vanegas has leveraged his expertise in the EOS blockchain to deploy decentralized applications (dapps) and web 2.0 solutions. His innovative projects include the development of remote-controlled robotic systems for vehicle inspections and the creation of online banking software for credit unions.
Before his recent focus on blockchain and technology, Vanegas made significant contributions to real estate and community building through Socecorev LLC, a company he founded in 1999. His efforts in real estate investment and management have enabled many of his employees to achieve homeownership through group savings initiatives.
Vanegas’s deep understanding of monetary policy is also reflected in his work as a documentary filmmaker. His 2013 production, Jekyll Island: The Truth Behind The Federal Reserve, explores the history and impact of the Federal Reserve, advocating for greater public awareness of monetary systems.
An immigrant from Medellin, Colombia, Vanegas has combined grit, intelligence, and determination to build a multi-faceted career that spans several industries. His most recent and proudest achievement, the Hu-Fi Movement, is reshaping how communities engage in economic activities, fostering a more inclusive and sustainable financial future.
He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Tall Structures from the University of California, Los Angeles, Class of 1992.
